THE FOUNTAIN HC
Written by Darren Aronofsky, adapted by Kent Williams, art and cover by Williams.
Darren Aronofsky proved himself a filmmaker to watch with his provocative debut, Pi. His follow-up, Requiem for a Dream, continued the accolades, receiving Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. His latest accomplishment, however, comes straight to comics in the form of The Fountain, a gorgeously painted, oversized original graphic novel about the timeless truths of life, love and death.
Working with acclaimed painter Kent Williams, The Fountain crisscrosses through three distinct time periods: 1535, during an ancient Mayan war; the present day, following one doctor's desperate search for the cure for cancer; and the far future through the vast exotic reaches of space. Interweaving these three periods, The Fountain follows Tomas -- warrior, doctor, explorer -- as he feverishly tries to beat death and prolong the life of the woman he loves.
A story so grand, one medium couldn't contain it, Aronofsky's feature film version of The Fountain will be released by New Regency and Warner Bros. Pictures, starring Tony Award-winning actor Hugh Jackman (X-Men, Van Helsing, The Boy from Oz) and acclaimed actress Rachel Weisz (Constantine, The Mummy, the upcoming The Constant Gardener). But before he did, the filmmaker wanted The Fountain to be realized the unique storytelling power and artistic beauty of the graphic novel. Together, Aronofsky and Williams deliver what might be considered the ultimate director's cut. This deluxe volume also features an afterword by Aronofsky. A softcover edition will be solicited in conjuction with the film's release.

SAMURAI EXECUTIONER VOLUME 9 TPB
KAZUO KOIKE (W) and GOSEKI KOJIMA (A)
On sale December 14, SC, 304pg, b&w, 4" x 6", $9.95
For a stoic ronin such as Kubikiri Asa, a samurai assigned to test the
Shogun’s sword and behead prisoners, the moment before death is of
great importance. Because of this, Asa will often listen to the stories of
those about to be executed and pay respect to the lives of these often
unfortunately maligned prisoners. Sometimes scary, often quirky, and
occasionally very sweet, it goes to show how people of different walks of
life can meet the same brutal, yet graceful end, at the hand of one of
the finest masters of bushido and swordsmanship.
Samurai Executioner tells the stories of these people, from the
perspective of Asa, an honorable, highly skilled ronin.
As with their previously published series, Lone Wolf and Cub, Kazuo
Koike and Goseki Kojima present a detailed and beautiful, if brutal,
account of a bygone era.

comics featuring impossibly proportioned vixens in spandex. This time

comics, respresenting some of the best and brightest talent contributing to
the medium of comics and graphic novels today. With stories ranging

autobiography, Sexy Chix is devoted to the under-recognized contingent of
female cartoonists in an overwhelmingly male-oriented industry. It’s
about time these divinely talented creators get to tell the stories they
want to, and the result is an exquisite variety of artistic visions and
styles.
Among the sexy chicks are New York Times best-selling author Joyce
Carol Oates, Eisner Award-winning illustrator Jill Thompson (Scary
Godmother), A Distant Soil writer/artist Colleen Doran, Bitchy Bitch creator
Roberta Gregory, DC Comics writer Gail Simone, novelist Sarah Grace
McCandless (Grosse Pointe Girl), and many, many more!

underground movement of such delinquents tries to recruit the two
girls, and the government begins to grow suspicious that the two girls may
well be involved with this dangerous cabal. But back at school, the two

Aparo book heads up Twomorrows goodies for October

Here's a look at October solicitations from Twomorrows Publishing:

THE BRAVE AND BOLD ART OF JIM APARO
by SCOTT BEATTY ERIC NOLEN-WEATHINGTON

For a generation of comic-book readers, JIM APARO is considered the
greatest Batman artist of them all. Aparo—with his strong, dynamic
style, well-grounded in realism—together with Batman made a team worthy
of the title, The Brave and the Bold. But while the Batman team-up book
was where fans could most commonly find Aparo’s work, he first made his
name on such series as Aquaman, the controversial “Spectre,” and the
mysterious Phantom Stranger, and is considered by many to be the
definitive artist for each. Now, Scott Beatty (writer of Batman and The
DC Comics Encyclopedia) along with Eric Nolen-Weathington
(editor/designer of the Modern Masters book series) turn the Bat Signal
onto the life and work of one of comics’ finest: Jim Aparo. From his
time in the world of advertising art, through the heyday of the ’70s,
and beyond the death of Robin, Aparo’s career is finally given the
attention it so richly deserves. The book is lavishly illustrated with
Aparo’s work—including many rare and previously-unpublished pieces.

Director Joss Whedon is working out the fine details for his upcoming Wonder Woman flick:

"I do not believe she will be flying. I think we have a guy who flies. I don't see her flying. She might jump. There could be some hopping. And there may in fact be an invisible plane. But if there is, it will be because it came out really cool."
