The Wrecking Crew--the group of studio musicians who supplied backing tracks for a zillion 1960s hits by the Beach Boys, the Monkees, Phil Spector and many more--has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Among those attending were Hal Blaine, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer on songs including "Da Doo Ron Ron," "Strangers in the Night," "Good Vibrations" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water"; guitarist Glen Campbell; Danny Tedesco, son of the late guitarist Tommy Tedesco; bassist Jimmy Bond; and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas.

Superman at 70: Super stuff!

The first appearance of Superman, in Action Comics #1, was published 70 years ago this summer. It's hard to imagine American culture without him, or the zillion super-heroes that followed in his wake.

And while the presence of so many other heroes may've eclipsed the Man of Steel's popularity somewhat, he's still around us everywhere--in comics, on t-shirts, on TV and in toy stores. He's been merchandised nearly as much as Snoopy or Mickey Mouse.

I enjoy collecting images of pop culture ephemera (you have seen this site, haven't you?) and I thought it'd be fun to share some pics of various vintage Superman stuff.

Efforts to restore the Cleveland home of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel as part of the Man of Steel's 70th anniversary festivities this year have run into problems.

Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour finally coming to DVD

All I had to do was complain! I mean, after all, it's ridiculous that one of this nation's most controversial, influential TV programs isn't available on DVD when the likes of "Diff'rent Strokes" or "The Facts of Life" are readily available.

But now, the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" is finally on the way. Looks like it's gonna be one of those expensive Time-Life deals, though. Like "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and "Get Smart," it'll be available at first only via this outlet and, presumably, later via general (discounted) release. After years as an expensive Time-Life "complete series" set, "Get Smart" is finally coming out in cheaper season sets from other outlets soon.

At any rate, with the Smothers Brothers, Time-Life is starting out with the controversial third season first, with a 5-disk best-of collection. According to Time-Life, it'll include:

* FIVE HOURS of bonus material including never-before-seen unedited content, exclusive interviews, and audio perspectives

* Features groundbreaking comedy by Steve Martin, George Carlin, Bob Newhart, David Steinberg and many others

* On camera introductions by Tom & Dick to EVERY episode

* Behind the scenes and rehearsal footage

* Classic performances by The Doors, Ray Charles, Donovan, Ike & Tina Turner and many others!

* PLUS the award-winning "Pat Paulsen for President" special, including newly uncovered, never-before-seen outtakes with Senator Robert F. Kennedy
