Today's Best Song Ever: "Young Man Blues" -- The Who

This hard-rocking cover of the much more sedate original by pianist Mose Allison was a live staple for the Who all through the late 1960s and 70s. The best version is on the must-have Live at Leeds album.

They just thunder through it: John Entwhistle's thundering bass, Keith Moon's all-over-the-place drums and Pete Townshend coming on like two or three guitarists, sounding at times riffy and distorted and others jazzy and clean. Vocalist Roger Daltrey sounds like he's ready to kick some old people ass before he gets old himself. Putting this on made me feel good after many a crappy summer job.
